Shanghai Maritime University

Shanghai Maritime University is a multidisciplinary university featuring shipping, logistics and ocean, with engineering, management, economics, law, literature, science and art and other disciplines. In 2008, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government signed an agreement with the Ministry of Transport to jointly build Shanghai Maritime University.

Shanghai Maritime University has 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations (transportation engineering, electrical engineering), 4 First-Level Discipline doctoral points (transportation engineering, management science engineering, ship and ocean engineering, electrical engineering), 17 second-level discipline doctoral points, 14 First-Level Discipline master's degree authorization points, 59 second-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 8 professional degree authorization points , 10 engineering master's degrees and 47 undergraduate majors. It has 11 provincial and ministerial key research bases. At present, there are 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 1 peak discipline in Shanghai, 2 plateau disciplines in Shanghai, 9 municipal key disciplines, and engineering disciplines are among the top 1% of ESI in the world. 5 national characteristic majors, 1 pilot national comprehensive reform major, 6 outstanding engineer education and training program majors of the Ministry of Education, and 17 undergraduate education highlands of Shanghai. There are 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national virtual simulating experimental teaching demonstration centers, 5 national practical teaching demonstration centers and 1 national joint training base for graduates of demonstration engineering specialty. It has a water training center, a 10,000-ton container teaching practice ship "Yufeng" and a 48,000-ton bulk teaching practice ship "Yuming".

In 2004, the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching level evaluation and 2006, the Ministry of Education's English major teaching evaluation, Shanghai Maritime University obtained level of excellence. In 2017, the annual total scientific and technological fund reached 300 million yuan, and it won a number of national scientific research projects and scientific and technological progress awards at or above the ministerial and municipal levels.

Shanghai Maritime University implements the secondary management system of colleges and universities, there are now Commercial Shipping College, Transportation College, Economic Management College (Asia Cruise College), Logistics Engineering College (China Dutch College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering), Law College, Information Engineering College, Foreign Languages College, Marine Science and Engineering College, Liberal Arts College (Marxist College), Xu Beihong Art College, Logistics Science and Engineering College, Shanghai Advanced International Shipping College. Among the more than 23,000 students, there are more than 17,000 undergraduates, nearly 5,000 graduate students of all kinds and more than 700 international students. Of the more than 1100 full-time teachers, 163 are professors, and the proportion of teachers with doctoral degrees is about 60%. The school devotes itself to training all kinds of specialized talents at all levels needed by the national shipping industry. It has sent a large number of graduates to the national port and shipping enterprises, institutions and government departments. It is known as the cradle of senior shipping talents.

In 2013, Shanghai Maritime University established the Supply Chain Research Institute of China (Shanghai) Free Trade Zone and Shanghai Advanced International Shipping College. The Supply Chain Research Institute of China (Shanghai) Free Trade Zone (FTA) organically combines the construction of FTA with the study of supply chain to improve the level of industrial chain construction in FTA, promote the transformation and development of trade in goods to trade in services in FTA, and promote the transformation of government regulatory functions. Shanghai Advanced International Shipping College adopts the international advanced business school operation mode, sharing resources with the world's excellent educational institutions, striving to build a leading and internationally renowned shipping finance education brand, and forge an influential shipping high-end talent export base.

In 2008, over 20 units, such as Shanghai Education Commission, Shanghai Urban and Rural Construction and Transportation Commission, Shanghai Maritime University and Hongkou District People's Government, jointly launched the establishment of Shanghai International Shipping Institute. The institute is affiliated with Shanghai Maritime University, and is a research and consulting institution for the development of international shipping industry. It provides decision-making and information services for the government, domestic and foreign enterprises and shipping institutions. It is one of the first "knowledge service platforms for universities" established by Shanghai Education Commission. In 2014, the Municipal Education Commission listed the platform as "Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Center".

Shanghai Maritime University has established inter-school exchanges and cooperation with more than 80 sister universities abroad, and carried out teacher exchanges, cooperative running schools, cooperative scientific research and student exchanges. Close contacts have been established with the United Nations International Maritime Organization, the Baltic International Shipping Association, the Norwegian Classification Society and other well-known international shipping organizations/agencies. Since 2010, the International Class has been offered, inviting students from navigational colleges and universities in the United States, South Korea, Poland, Russia, Germany and other countries to study "navigation technology" and "shipping management" specialties. In 2011, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Ghana's Maritime University of West and Central Africa co-sponsored the Undergraduate Education Project of Logistics Management and began to recruit students in Africa. This is the first overseas project of Shanghai's local universities to award the bachelor's degree of Chinese universities. In 2012, the school was approved by the Ministry of Education to formally become a "Chinese Government Scholarship College for Overseas Students" in China.
